In all descriptions of the signs, the right hand is always written as R. and the left hand as L. The signs' main meanings are shown in capital letters. Non-manual features (facial and bodily expression) are given in bold type. Signs are drawn and described as if the signer is right-handed. Left handed signers will use the reverse of this with the left hand as dominant. From the thumb, the fingers are referred to as index, middle, ring and little finger.
