One Day Course

At Manchester Cathedral

9.30am - 4.30pm

Overview

Throughout the day you will explore how to recognise someone has a disability and how to enable that person to access services, information and facilities. This workshop is packed with common sense and practical ideas which will help you feel confident and professional when providing a service to people with disabilities.

Who should come?

The course is particularly suited to people who work on the front line, providing a service to the public.

Course Content

In this course we aim to:

Explore five areas of disability - blind/partially sighted, learning difficulties/disabilities, d/Deaf issues, mental health and mobility.

Encourage participants to recognise barriers towards disabled people that exist in their organisation and working practices, and to look for ways to remove them. Introduce good manners and best practice to ensure an equal service is provided for disabled people.

Help organisations comply with legislation. Introduce lively and interactive debates, games and quizzes.

Afford an opportunity for participants to ask specific questions on disability issues.

Learning Outcomes

Throughout this course participants will:

Gain an understanding of how to identify people with disabilities.

Know what can be done to make their service accessible.

Develop a 'can do' approach. Understand current legislation.
